The inspiration for the garden at Grace comes from Martin Luther’s wife, Katharina. Katie’s dynamic views were family centered, leading her to work extensively in the garden and with their livestock to feed their family, Martin’s students who often stayed with them, and friends and neighbors. Katie was focused on the physical needs of those in her community while Martin attended to the spiritual. Like Martin and Katie Luther, Grace Lutheran Church wishes to attend to the physical and spiritual wellbeing of the community it serves.
As you can see, the garden was bountiful this year. As with all good things there is a season and for Katie’s Garden the give aways for this season has ended.
June 8th was our first give away and August 17th was our final give away. We served 819 people this season with an average of 75 people per week. It has been another wonderful season at the garden.
We would like to thank everyone at Grace for their support. We especially would like to thank Katie’s Crew for their hard work in planting, harvesting and being there on Saturday mornings. We are looking forward to next year. We are also looking at adding another refrigerator for the coming year. If you have one you would like to
donate, please see Pastor Al.
Blessings, Katie
