News from Trinity HOPE

This is one of a series of articles which we make available each month to keep our supporters informed about our activities. Trinity HOPE, a not-for-profit charitable organization, raises funds and administers feeding programs that provide a noon meal for the hungry children who attend our schools in Haiti where the Good News of Jesus is shared daily.

The Kingdom in a Mustard Seed

Jesus told a parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown, it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.” (Matthew 13:31-32)

Jesus told many parables about the kingdom of heaven, but it is surprising how few of them sound like a distant place we only visit after we leave our physical bodies. After all, how can the afterlife be like a mustard seed?

The phrase “kingdom of heaven” can be understood more deeply through its roots in Aramaic, the language Jesus spoke. There, it means something closer to “the movement toward harmony, the development of unity, or the creative driving force toward the working together of all things.” When we picture heaven, don’t we imagine a place where we live in perfect harmony, and where no one is hungry, sick, or homeless?

This is exactly what comes to mind when I think of Trinity HOPE. For twenty-seven years, this ministry has been driven by a single, creative purpose: to bring hope and the Good News to the children of Haiti through a daily bowl of beans and rice.

Trinity HOPE is like that tiny mustard seed planted nearly three decades ago. It started small, bringing peace, joy, and kindness to just one school. Then it grew to a second, a third, and then dozens more. Today, through the grace of God and the dedication of so many supporters, that seed has grown into a great tree. It now holds thousands of children in its branches, nourishing their bodies with food and filling their spirits with the love of Jesus.

It takes a community working together in unity to manifest the kingdom of heaven for others. More than anything, it takes the power of prayer and the Holy Spirit to make it grow. God has deeply blessed this work, and we pray that He will continue to use us to bring His kingdom to the children of Haiti.

A Prayer for the Journey:

O Lord our God, you have called us into your service to bring hope and good news to the children of Haiti. We need your guidance in all we do. Let your wisdom counsel us, your love empower us, and your arm support us as we bring your kingdom into their lives. We pray this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
